A BC box house adventure in West Kelowna. Big and small reno projects as we make this amazing 1973 house our home.

Dec. 22, 2025: The new T&G ceiling in our room!

Nov 17, 2025: Tackling the elm trees today! I’m told these are called the house wreckers… They are amazingly resilient and grow so fast!!

Oct 27, 2025: Painting is not something I have successfully been able to get the kids involved in… so it’s late night painting sessions after they’re in bed for now.

Oct 27, 2025: Kyle getting the kids involved in making shelves. If anyone tears those shelves apart one day they’ll find happy little kid drawings inside :)

Oct 24, 2025: I would have literally no idea where to start in trying to cut this piece… all Kyle here.

Oct 14, 2025: Late night renos

Oct 1, 2025: Little S picking plums from our new tree :) I still have no idea how to properly prune or care for this tree… a future me problem. For now, we enjoy the amazing fruit God grows in our new backyard. How do trees just do this!? It blows my mind. Creation is amazing.

Sept 27, 2025: There are huge cheers at the end for good reason! This tree was the big challenge.

It is veeery close to the house and leaning towards it! There are two ropes tied from the top to two vehicles below which slowly backed up as the tree was cut. The @ninja_treeservice team is a well oiled machine and Steve, the fearless leader, is amazing!!

This was all truly incredible to watch and we’re so grateful to God it all went safely!

Sept 27, 2025: @ninja_treeservice are champions!!

Sad as it is to see trees come down, these ones were sick and dangerous to our house.

We’re so grateful to this team for safely bringing them down. It was AMAZING to watch!!!

Sept 23, 2025: The things that are important to know about this pic are:

- Kyle just spent so long in the tightest bit of the attic, covered in insulation, to try and relocate 3 light fixtures

- Kyle is just learning to wire lights

- Kyle is working hard at this house and is so tired :)

3, 2, 1… light switch on AND IT ALL WORKED!!! And that moment of switching on the new light and realizing he did it successfully is pictured here :)

Sept 23, 2025: So we have these trees… two enormous ponderosa pines right on our doorstep…literally, because the one has roots bursting up through the pathway. Sadly, they have to go. In the process of figuring this all out, here are the cool things I learned about these trees! (And I will say I’m probably gonna describe this wrong because there’s so many terms flying around from the experts that I’m just trying to keep up)

- The one closest to our house, like 10’ away, has a “dark lean” which means it’s leaning towards our house… so ominous feeling! DARK LEAN oooOOoooo

- They’re both apparently sick with a fungus (which looks like bulbs on the branches) that is making their branches droop and is just slowly killing the tree

- They have a ball root so they knock over easy in wind

- The wood is not good to build with or burn so you can’t sell it or use it at all I guess.

They’re coming down tomorrow. How, I have no idea. It blows my mind. The one is already 2/3 de-branched

Sept 18, 2025: Little E working hard at his own little projects :)

Sept 18, 2025: Team light fixtures (Kyle, Mike, and Norm)! The ceiling is repaired and painted, the new pot lights are cut out and installed, and marketplace is turning up some great light finds!

Sept 11, 2025: Things we discovered in our yard after we got the keys… a huge wood beam that’s just begging to be a cool project, a (deer?) skull, a pick-ax under the apple tree, a shovel that the tree has grown firmly around, a bench swing, and a stone slab!

Sept 8, 2025: The floors are done! What a journey. Home Depot has a step by step on how to refinish a hardwood floor. They listed the difficulty level as intermediate… yep. Yes. It was harder than I expected. But, minus the moth that landed and is now permanently stuck in the floor, we love it :)

Aug 25, 2025: Well I’ve looked at about a thousand kinds of off-white paint and still don’t have the one that feels right.

Also…planning for pot lights… easier said than done! Do you create a border around the kitchen? Do you create a grid? What colour and brightness should they be? How will they affect the tone of off-white on the walls? Details details.

Aug 22, 2025: Evening after evening Kyle’s working hard to fill in the new hardwood floor where it used to be tile! And it’s a perfect colour match! Haha no, it will soon be sanded down, stained, and refinished.

Aug 14, 2025: Plotting out how we’ll weave new hardwood into old. After this we’ll sand it all down and stain it!

Aug 13, 2025: Little E helping my Dad with electrical :) (which is a massive job! So grateful for Dad’s help)

Aug 13, 2025: Kyle vs Tile

Aug 13, 2025: He’s here helping on so many days when we’re not even at the house! Kyle’s Dad is a yard conquering champion.

Tucked back there is an apple tree, a plum tree, elderberries, another fruit tree but we’re not sure what kind it is, and a fire pit.

Aug 2, 2025: Kyle doing his finishing carpenter thing and taking down old doors.

Aug 2, 2025: Discovered this amazing Lino under a layer of floor we ripped up in a closet!

Aug 2, 2025: Taking a moment to thank God for this amazing gift!!
